[Gradmama2011 says: I LOVE clouds, and all kinds of atmospheric wonders. This is a super site, and as another person who reads encyclopedias, I really enjoy it. Thanks for the RE-BLOG availability…Jay Dee! https://ireadencyclopedias.wordpress.com/2016/01/28/sundog-and-unusual-clouds/
Yesterday, I was able to see a great phenomenon known as a sundog. These things are part of a halo around the sun and created by hexagonal ice crystals in the air, usually with cirrus clouds. Well, there were plenty of cirrus clouds yesterday. This sundog that I saw was rainbow coloured, though it didn’t turn out very well in the picture. You can see it below.
And cirrus clouds are interesting to look at, too. They have a lot of patterns, like waves or feathers. I got some pictures of those, too.
Rippled and feathery cirrus clouds.
Fluffy cirrus clouds on the right, wispy cirrus clouds behind the building and in front of the sun.
Have you ever seen a sundog? Cirrus clouds are pretty common, but you have to be lucky to see a sundog.
Thanks for reblogging! 🙂

I love clouds etc…just missed some great cloud formations because I couldn’t stop on the highway.

I’ve missed great clouds or views because I’m going too fast on a train, and buildings or a tunnel get in the way.

Thankfully, that doesn’t happen to me in Japan. I don’t drive often 🙂

good, huge semi tractor trailers are scary! My kid once said with a huge truck behind our little Renault: “oooh…choo-choo train.” She always has been observant!

Haha. I guess it could be like a train. I don’t like driving around semis, but my cousin drives one.

she was a very little kid, the Renault was smaller than a VW Bug, and the semi tractor was…four times our size. No seat belts then, so she was standing on the backseat, and the sight of the semi filled the back window. 🙂

I remember when I didn’t have to wear a seatbelt. Just over 30 years ago, I think. But back then, we had big vehicles, including a Chevy Suburban.

Back in the 50s there were no seatbelts yet. Then they came out with the car seats they have now.

I remember lap seatbelts in the back seat of cars in the early 80s. Those things would be considered dangerous now.

my kids were all born in 60s, except one in 57. They just sat in the back of the bug and rattled around… 🙂

we had a little seat with a steering wheel that hooked over the seat backs. Once my girl flew up head over heels on her head under the dashboard. She was ok.
