      1. Cats are amazing creatures. My Golly is the one that was hit by a car and left to die. A good Samaritan stopped and took him to the local vet. Thank god Golly was microchipped. The vet rang me and I said do anything to keep him alive [he was only about 1 at the time].
        Long story short, Golly had brain damage and is almost completely blind. Couldn’t walk in a straight line , feed, drink, anything when I brought him home. Now he can do almost everything the others can do. He even catches moths inside the house using his hearing along. He’s my little miracle boy.
        I love them all in different ways but Golly is my very special boy. 🙂

      2. what a cutie! It is remarkable how Golly endured, it’s a case of compensating in the loss of senses. Bob has the “tumbling kitten” syndrome, which is not funny although those afflicted do flipflops and various “cute” antics. Bob still misjudges destinations and jumps and crashes into the wall or something. Actually Bob isn’t bad, he can walk and jump and run, he just falls over easily.

      12. there’s a lot about cerebellar dysplasia in cats on the ‘net. Dogs get it too. Baby walks like a horse, stiff legged with a gait. Some fans of the CD cats have devised little wheelchair cart contraptions. It’s amazing. There’s some issue with anesthetic when spaying a CD cat, I discussed it with the Vet, but he said it wouldn’t matter because Baby is a Boy…he loves being called Bob.

      14. It was after the Vet told me “Baby was a boy” and I was chatting with him (the cat) about his new name… Bubba…no, Buddy…no… Bobby? Bob! In my defense, the reason I never thought about him being a boy is that my concern was about his falling off something or when he was outside before he moved in … something eating him.

      28. Yes, the shooting was in our news last night. One of the commenters said that some Senator wanted to change gun laws just to make it illegal to sell guns to people on the terrorist list or something. And even that was impossible to achieve. I just don’t understand. 😦

        All the articles I’ve been reading – by people in the US – paint a horrific picture of parents and teacher AND kids living in fear.

I know it’s technically none of my business, but I’ve been trying to present the reality of the rest of the world where gun control is accepted and people feel a heck of a lot safer than in the US. The thing I hear again and again is about their constitutional ‘right to bear arms’. There is an almost religious fervour about this, despite the fact that the Amendment never imagine military style automatic weapons would be the ‘arms’ ordinary citizens would embrace. It seems as if the NRA and their ilk cling to the letter of the Amendment and flagrantly ignore the spirit. 😦

      33. Yes, yes, and yes! The second amendment to the constitution did declare the right of all Americans to have guns. What they no doubt had in mind was that when they ran up against the British they all had squirrel rifles and muzzle loaders and the like. There is NO need for anyone to have automatic weapons…its bad enough to shoot ONE person, without plowing into a crowd of people. If ya ask me they should ban that kind of death machine even in battle.

      38. we can only hope. Unfortunately, the gun issue will remain. The teachers with gun thing isn’t new, its just one trumpie may think won’t get him in too much trouble with the IRA. Obviously the only way that would work would be if every teacher in every school was armed. Unlikely, most opposition to that idea is from teachers themselves.

      41. I read that there were over 300 million guns in the US. I don’t know how many children there are under the age of 10, and I don’t know how many /don’t/ own a gun [none of my online friends do], but that still means multiple guns in the hands of a lot of people. 😦

      42. yep, I do not have a gun. My husband had some, by I got rid of them after he died. They were all old antiques anyway, collector guns. I sold them to an auctioneer I know who valued them according to their genre? and so paid me much more than if I had sold them to a dealer. Some of my children are gun afficienados and others are not. That’s a whole other story 🙂

      43. I have one friend in Cyprus who has a gun, but then every young male in Cyprus has to do 2 years military service and he’s most definitely not a gun waving type person. Don’t think I know anyone here in Australia with a gun.

      45. If I remember correctly, the island of Cyprus is kind of half Greek, half Turkish – that’s why the Greek Cypriots have compulsory military service and why after military service they keep their guns – like a militia in case the Turks try to invade their half.

      48. When I was a student at the community college back in the days when I was 50, it was required to have three “activity” credits. My third was rifle marksmanship. Ha! I couldn’t hit the side of a barn although I did get an A in the course for trying in spite of my arthritis.

The 9/11 thing had to do with ramming the towers in New York City with huge Boeing 757 or whatever…personally I believe it was a great shock to even the perpetrators that the bombing had such far reaching effects.       101. indeed…actually I was a pretty lousy teacher, too sensitive…get my feelings hurt easily. I tend to say and do dumb things. Also I guess I wasn’t really a teacher, I was a “teaching assistant…” not the same. In one “discussion group” someone wrote on the evaluations that I was the best TA they ever had…and another said I was the worst TA they ever had. 🙂 My best TA friend, asked if it hurt her feelings when one of her students wrote “bitch” on her eval she said “of course…but I’m trying to be their teacher, not their friend.

      105. our FLL has spent several tweets badmouthing a sheriff’s deputy that he has branded a coward among other things because he failed to charge single-handedly with his hand gun into a hell of semi-automatic fire. I think his comrades and peers will verify that he was no coward at all, and there probably was a “stand down” order that hasn’t come out yet.

        I watch enough TV cop shows to know that the SWAT teams frown on cowboys that dash into a situation by themselves. Likewise my husband, who was fire chief, used to complain about “heroes” who didn’t wait for any backup or compadres.       133. back in my reporter days I covered a “demonstration” in our local high school in which students had walked out of class to protest a new dress-code rule involving boys hair. With my own eyes I witnessed a 14-year-old girl almost start a riot….no coaching there, just a kid with some strong opinions, but they immediately shut her up. That impressed me greatly.
