Some True Facts and Confessions About Blogging

SOMETIMES

Today I managed to spend the entire day blogging, with exceptions for hauling the son around and feeding the cats.   By “blogging” I mean visiting lots of other bloggers online, trying to get my photos to cooperate, and writing in my blog.

All my writing life I have felt guilty and self-indulgent when I spent time writing for pleasure.   Sure, I got paid for it in various venues, and wrote lots as a student, and even sneaked in some time writing short stories or novels that I never finished.  I still have four novels floating around aimlessly, with characters and everything.  That kind of writing has always been, to me, more of a treat…a sort of stolen pleasure, so to speak.

Not so much that the Writer’s Life is considered glamorous and exciting and adventurous.   When I was a girl I had aspirations to be, in no particular order: an…

      1. It is the middle of the night, 2:30 a.m…. and wtf am I doing up? Spinning my wheels! I had to scan some papers to email to the bank and with my new printer/scanner which is different from any other in the world…I took numerous shots at it. I think I sent the woman 8 emails in a row…Sometimes I wonder just how dumb I can be. Ha! Yesterday’s faux pas was taking a photo of my dental crisis…I am getting implants and still healing, thought I had an infection so had to send a photo by email to the dentist, who is god knows where on vacation….so he could see my poor gum and decide if he needed to rprescribe an antibiotic. (I am allergic to almost all antibiotics except the shot of roceferin in the butt.) Good god what a hassle getting a photo of my own mouth! Stupido had just eaten a bagel and had remnants on my front teeth…prompting a reprimand from the dentist and his snippy office girl about hygiene. Well just drank some milk and graham crackers, and now I’m cold. So I’m going to bed for a few hours now. good night…

      3. I put off the dentist visit because I fully expected him to say I was a lost cause and needed to pull all my teeth. Actually he said I have “good bone structure” and needed relatively little new work. !

      4. Every time I go to the dentist I either have fillings or a root canal treatment. I hate, hate, hate the dentist which makes me my own worst enemy. 😦

      6. Have you been commenting on my “other” site, sometimeinwonderland? which I thought I lost last year, but is still active…I had some new followers from there. I’m going to keep the site and go off in another direction with it.

      7. I started it long ago, in fact before mumbletymuse, Sometimes’ mama site. I made a sort of mirror site of it, but kept it because I like the .com name (sometimeinwonderland) and see a future of it with part of my writings, while the other part remains here.

      8. It’s also a Premium site, I seem to be able to afford web sites that languish in lalaland…but tend to ignore more urgent expenses like paying the gas bill.

      9. Maybe consolidate your sites into just one? Honestly, I can’t afford extra monthly anything, including web hosting so I was horribly depressed yesterday when Tikh Tokh was ‘suspended’. Medium fixed it by this morning. Something about it getting swept up into a spam filter?!? Anyway, every little bit counts! 🙂

      10. I want the “other” site for my …ahem… more scholarly work. My followers that like my “back in the day ” posts are separate from my poems and my photo pieces, and the most liked thing I ever wrote dealt with cookies, Gingersnaps to be exact. Big hit! 🙂 My own personal favorites among my stuff are either ignored or skipped altogether.

      11. -sigh- I know exactly what you mean. I rarely write about ‘writing’ because it’s so obvious those posts send people to sleep. Still, I swore I’d follow my passions and that I have done on my blog. 🙂

      12. Well, I have x–number of posts, more than 500. Not a lot in the cyberspace writers’ world, I admit. Maybe 100 of my (“followers” actually relate and interact with me on a regular basis. Most of them like me or at least tolerate my stuff, a handful hate me and another handful love me… some think I am full of myself.

      13. Yeah, the regulars are faithful. My late BFF (yep) considered everyone that was not an enemy to be a friend. I have enemies, friends, and acquaintances. Then I have special-friends that like me no matter how well they know me…I can count them on my two hands over 80 years, and half of those are either dead 😦 or current online blog or email pals.

      14. I have always been a writer, have had my blog(s) since 2011…and the most popular stuff has been the personal stuff. (wordsmith there.) Only one regular once told me that I should avoid politics (“we know you as a pretty good blogger, you should stick to that in stop trying to be a Historian.” Uh…I am an Historian…:-)

      15. Sheesh…:( Sadly a lot of social media is about personality and popularity. I was never the ‘it’ girl at school and I’m reasonably sure I won’t become one at 65. 🙂

      16. Yeah, me too. Several “friends” turned on me because I chose some loser/nobody over them as a friend. Saying “its either me or him/her” with me is counterproductive.

      18. At the party yesterday there was an “almost 3 year old” girl who wins my prize as the “best behaved almost 3-year-old” I have ever seen. Lovely little girl. I kept thinking she has to have her moments, but she was consistently sweet. Suspicious, I know. However, I do think that this generation of young’uns is less “terrible twos” than in the past. Descended from the Indigos…yep.

      19. We never talked babytalk to our kids, or other babies, for that matter. I maintain that children will behave pretty much as we expect them to. Once my friend brought over her little neighbor Beany, who was in her twos, and had a reputation for being a terror. She searched up and down the hallway, and discovered the big toy cabinet in our house. I told her she could play with any toys she wanted, so of course that meant all of the stash! My friend expected to end up picking up all the stuff later, but I said no Beany will pick them up. Long story short, she did…every little item.

      20. lol – my favourite nephew was the same! I think it’s the consistency with which /we/ express our expectations. If we cave in after 5 minutes of tantrums then they’ll keep pushing to 10 minutes next time because we’ll eventually ‘give in’. Kids aren’t stupid.

      23. whining and ranting are different to me…whining is when I was following my 98 year old sisterinlaw around the grocery store (me whining, not her.) Ranting is when part of it is in CAPS, virtual or not, and exclamation marks!!! and swearing… 🙂

      24. perhaps…my (infrequent) observations of that family is that it’s pretty non-whiny. I’ve know the mother, who is a pre-high school friend of my granddaughter’s for decades; she was always my idea of a good kid, as was HER older daughter who is now about 16, and the little one seems to be following. I don’t hear well at gatherings, so tend to keep quiet and observe goings on.

      25. Mis-educated is more like it. In some of our southern states the schools teach “intelligent design” and creation instead of any logical Darwin stuff; refuse to have sexual education until high school, then its “abstention.” Don’t do it and you won’t get pregnant. (That works well with teenagers.) They used to make kids pledge promises to remain…uh “pure” until marriage.

      29. over here we have chronic shell-shock, every dam day the first thing on the telly is something about trumpie…his main lawyer quit the other day. Ya know ya are really in bad trouble when yer lawyer dumps ya.

And poor wifey… every day some new woman of ill repute comes out and brags/complains about their sordid affair with 45. These women are former Playboy Bunnies, models, general climbers and assorted strippers and porn stars. In my unbiased opinion he is just a filthy pig that wallowed in some good-looking mud. 🙂

I really feel that his wife Melania doesn’t deserve having this aired constantly…no matter what she is his wife. Third wife…but oh well. This was the issue many women had with Hillary Clinton was that she “allowed” her husband to play around. Stupid comment.

      31. No, but the thing that infuriates me is that all this T&A colorful rhetoric and titillaiting tales draws 20 million watchers on “60Minutes” alone. But the really really bad stuff trumpie has done to our country is ignored…the “base” could not care less about the Russia thing and the dangers in that fiasco. Worse than the Stormy Daniels thing is the Karen McDoughal…”he said he loved me and I believed it…I thought we would marry someday…he said I remind him of his daughter…” dada dada…..

      34. Well I don’t think #45 will be on the list of “great lovers,” but what do I know? I do think though that some of these women are trying to cash in on the big shot creepo POTUS. And why not? All these beautiful models and what-have-you surely didn’t “choose” him because of his charm. yuk…

      35. I do wonder if Stormy saw the opportunity for Mr.#45-to-be and set up some evidence files. He was SO infamous even years ago…he’s a pig and always has been. His first wife sued him for divorce and won, inspite of his efforts to avoid making her a very very rich woman. Second got a decent settlement too…and I’m sure Melania knows where her bread is buttered.

      41. Well, it is impressive, and really not surprising. This is a new generation, descendants of the original 1940+ generation of Indigo Children. Of course the whole Indigo thing is hushed here as much as possible, but obvious to proponents. It is said, in fact, that this generation of kids (all over the world) will be the salvation of mankind IF given a chance. Yes I am a left wing liberal nut…and proud of it.

All the BS that goes with it…who has the kids when, the unreasonable demand for “getting together over the holidays”…bah humbug. There was a famous movie (old) of two of my sisters pulling hair and punching each other. I have no idea why, I was in Germany. Husband and I used to plan trips to Mexico or Spain over holidays…great fun! They saved the family freeforall for when we got back though.

      2. I like the look of Medium. Yesterday I read an article there about the “deforestation” by our early settlers…terribly misinformed, wrong, and obviously the writer has absolutely no info whatsoever about geography or history. Several commenters pointed that out, but being a new kid on the block I didn’t want to jump in with negative comments.

If the problem with emails is that you’ve got too many to check, how about you make one as Innerscape@gmail.com. It should be available. I’ll make sure to always reply to that email so you’ll know which one to check?

Trying to resist the temptation to clutter it up with “stuff.” I am using my gmail addresses otherwise…have had for a long time pearlofohio@gmail and just created a new Padrebooks business gmail for my book venues and maybe bills, etc.
